willow oaks wedding: katie + pete
What a great way to start the wedding season! Enjoy this lovely spring wedding at { Willow Oaks Plantation }, and I will post some of Katie's bridal portraits next week.

P.S. I'm trying to do more pics, and less yak-yak, since writing the text is what slows me down from posting. Just look at prettiness!

blog tourette's, or the story of ping
Thank you all so much for responding to my last post -- it made me so incredibly happy to hear from you! If I could see each of you in person I would present you with this bouquet of clover, picked from our unmowed front yard by Joaquin and Lila Mae. Surely our bees have kissed each tiny flower, and we might even be able to share some honey made from these flowers in the future. So, thank you.

This bouquet is also an apology to any of you who subscribe to this blog by Feedburner, which "pings" my blog every thirty minutes looking for new content, not unlike some kids I know who ping me every thirty minutes for juice/the crayon box/lost shoes, etc.

In its hungry search for new content, Feedburner grabs ANYTHING that has been tinkered with, including old pages that I update for whatever reason, and as a result my blog has been blurting random pages at you, unbidden -- I am sorry. Please feel free to tell it to go sit back down, that someone will be paying attention to it soon. Also, the juice is in the door of the fridge and shoes are in the basket by the front door.

11.16.11  |  Workshops
photography workshop: december 10
Does this sound familiar? Your Canon Rebel is still in its box, you have tried to read the manual, you've even tried a few test shots with your sleeping baby, but your pictures still look like they did BEFORE you bought your fancy camera. You might want to try my Shutterbabes workshop! Aimed at total beginners but with enough tricks of the trade to challenge intermediate shooters, you will learn about how making a few changes to your settings and upgrading to a better (not expensive) lens, will make a HUGE difference in your images. Look at the notes on the images below, and if they seem confusing to you, I promise that after you take this workshop you will know exactly what they mean, AND be able to apply those concepts to how you shoot.

This is our only workshop of 2011, just in time for Christmas! To find out more, you can go to the separate workshops site HERE.

Ready to reserve your spot? Tickets are $125 and can be purchased HERE. The class is limited to 20, so please reserve soon! Hope to see you in a few weeks!

autumn DIY wedding: colleen + corey
You are going to love this wedding -- first of all, Colleen and Corey are both gorgeous and head-over-heels in love. Plus, Colleen looks like a mashup of Mandy Moore and Poppy Montgomery and has the most fabulous God-given red hair you've ever seen. Oh, and she and Corey have been dating since she was in high school and he was a freshman in college. Eight years together and more in love each day.

Second of all, she and her sister Meg made EVERYTHING themselves. OK, they didn't grow the flowers (or the groom!), but they made the table decorations, the signage, and baked the macaroons and apple pie pops on the dessert table. Besides being DIY and crafty, this wedding is super GREEN, too! When Colleen and Corey first contacted me last year, we scheduled a webcam meeting, saving all of us a 3-hour-round-trip drive between Charlotte and Greensboro. I fell for them just as much virtually as I did in person on their wedding day! Here are some details from Colleen:

"All of the paper products were made with 100% recycled paper. My sister Meg and I made all the signage ourselves using recycled card stock. Our invitations were from a company called { The Aerialist Press }, which uses fabric remnants from garment factories, so the paper is both cotton and recycled. Our invitation -- which we helped design -- is actually now a featured style called { Verdant } that the company sells as one of their "house invitations." We used recycled twine on everything, and used leftover recycled paper to make the "love letters" on the dinner tables."

I could have posted about 50 images of the details alone, but I had to leave room for the couple themselves, especially their "first look" photos. Be sure to take a look at the knock-out shot by { Traci } using the 90mm tilt-and-shift lens. YUM.

Congratulations, Colleen and Corey -- you are wonderful!!

Cake: { Cheesecake Etc. }

It was unseasonable chilly that evening, so guests were offered soft wraps at the reception -- as well as comfy dancing shoes:

claxton farm wedding: mona + john
There are so many things to love about this wedding, starting with the gorgeous yellow palette created by the bride and { Tara Jordan }, one of the best event coordinators in the country. From the delicate bird's nest plate holders, to the mismatched farm table chairs, the flowers by Stacey at { The Bloom Room }, all of it was just stunning. In fact, according to Tara, it was Mona inspired her to start { The Darling Bee }, her styling and prop rental company. She and her team are always finding new inventory by scouring flea markets and antique shops, so their selection continues to grow. Such a great idea. If you are looking for a vintage typewriter, antique birdcages or rustic benches for your wedding, look no further than The Darling Bee. Brilliant idea.

As for the delightful bethrothed themselves, their affection and dedication to each other was inspiring. Mona's gorgeous wedding gown was made by her mother, and John's two sons pulled the flower girl's red wagon in the processional. The emotional ceremony gave way to a raucous dance party, and these families were CRAZY with the { Limelight } photo booth! Some of the most absurd, hilarious, wacky shots I've seen yet. There is a great deal of room for analysis in those shots, btw, since both Mona and John are psychiatrists. You'll see what I mean.

I was lucky enough to have { Traci Arney } along as my co-shooter, and she captured amazing details and moments, as always -- and kept me laughing on the drive home.

Enjoy this lovely wedding, and congrats to Mona and John!

OK, things start to get a little wacky here: that's John's dad in the middle with the Lady Gaga glasses:

I'm not sure Mona saw the chalkboard before she got into the picture. Notice that the Viking is carrying a gun:

And the funniest of all: that's John's mom and John's son. Remember, he's a psychiatrist. Discuss.

Lastly, the gorgeous (and silly) Tara Jordan team, who deserve a round of applause for a gorgeous event!

Congratulations, everyone!
