Some Info About Me
I'm a photographer in Greensboro, North Carolina and here are my thoughts on what I shoot:

For those of us who aren't EMS workers or heart surgeons, most of our days are spent at a fairly steady emotional level -- going to work, shopping for groceries, driving our cars, cleaning out the gutters -- and then there are those few moments when we are wide open with love and gratitude and humility. We are surrounded by the people whom we adore, we are supported and cherished and celebratory. That's where I get to come in: I am standing nearby to quietly take photographs of what's happening and how it affects you so you will never forget what it feels like.

I've been taking photographs since I was about 17, then dabbled in some other art forms such as acting, directing and writing, and came back to photography in 2002. I shot for magazines and newspapers as a freelancer and did my first wedding for a friend in 2003.

Since then my images have appeared in Martha Stewart Weddings, Real Simple Weddings, The Knot, Weddings Unveiled, and Southern Weddings. I was very humbled to have won the Bride's Book Readers' Choice Award two years in a row, and one of my images was a winner in this year's "Top Knots: The Best of Wedding Photography" contest in PDN Magazine. My children's photography is currently being featured on Tinyprints.com.

I graduated from New York University's photography program at Tisch School of the Arts, my (non-wedding)work has appeared in the New York Times, the News & Observer, Billboard, US Airways, Attache, Atlanta magazine, and The Sun. I have also studied and lived in France, Egypt, Italy, and Spain and traveled to Cuba in 2002 courtesy of an Emerging Artist grant from the North Carolina Arts Council.

As for those highlight moments? if I am asking you to trust me with yours, here are a few of mine:

Anniversary Post: Leslie & Jesse, Topsail Island NC
***Happy First Anniversary to Leslie & Jesse! It's a good excuse for me to bump her images to the top of the blog so we can celebrate with them again. ***

I asked her to give us an update on their lives, their first year of marriage, etc., and she was kind enough to oblige.

From Leslie: "When we returned to Atlanta after the wedding, I started my MBA/MPH (Master's in business and public health) dual degree and Jesse continued teaching 6th grade math and coaching basketball and baseball at Pace Academy.

This summer has proven to be no less exciting than last summer, which is hard to believe. We spent a couple weeks down at Topsail during which my sister, Lauren, and her boyfriend, Scott, got engaged. We are looking forward to planning another Holmes family beach wedding for next summer, destination TBD. I accepted an internship with McKesson Corporation in San Francisco, CA so Jesse and I moved to the city a couple of weeks ago and have been loving every minute. He is teaching an SAT math prep class at Stuart Hall High School and finding the best places in town for us to explore when I get off work.

We celebrated our first anniversary in wine country (Calistoga, CA near Sonoma Valley). We have enjoyed our first year of marriage and can't believe we are no longer newlyweds!"

The rehearsal dinner took place Friday night right on the waterway in Topsail, and the wedding party arrived by boat.

I love this shot of Leslie as she's listening to Jesse give a toast to her at the Friday dinner:

All of the bridesmaids watched from the sunporch while Leslie put on her (gorgeous!) dress:

We didn't get a chance to do a formal bridal session before the wedding day, so we did a little mini-session on the front lawn:

Little Finn, for whom Leslie used to nanny and whose house was the setting for the gussying-up of the ladies:

Their sign-in guest book was one that Taryn designed with all their {engagement session photos}, and plenty of white space for friends to leave good wishes:

I got to steal them away from the party for a few minutes at dusk. There was something very Great Gatsby-ish about the setting, the evening light, their outfits. I half-expected to see a green light shining across the water from Daisy's dock...

And finally, their triumphant dash to a waiting car, in this case an old Jeep Commando that has been in Jesse's family for years. Wendy and I were having a blast playing with our new Pocket Wizards, which allowed for all this cool light:

Congratulations!! And be sure to check out Wendy's gorgeous shots on her blog page.

Philadelphia Wedding: Kristy & Bernie
I had so much fun at this wedding, and was lucky enough to be there because Kristy is good friends with one of my very first couples, Melanie and Pat (see below). So I already felt completely at home knowing I was among not only future friends, but past ones too. The whole shindig took place on the deck of a famous old ship in Philadelphia, the {Moshulu}. I got to work with the amazing {Melissa Blemur}, who braved New York traffic to come and shoot that evening -- she and I worked together last summer on {Marissa and Derick's wedding} on Long Island.

I'm only posting a few faves here since I'm about to launch their whole gallery shortly, but trust me that the party later that night was off the chain! Bernie was hoisted up in the air (and almost dropped) by the crowd, there was serenading, plenty of dancing, and they all closed down the boat and moved their party to a nearby bar. It was a great celebration and I'm so glad I got to be there!

Everything took place on the deck of a ship, and here's another nice wide shot by Melissa. We got so lucky with the weather and the sunset sky:

***NEW: Photo Voting & Top Posts***
We've just added a fun new feature, thanks to the creative brilliance of Brock and Dave at { Infinet Design } -- you can vote on your favorite images individually and they will appear in a running gallery under "Most Popular Pics" above. Similarly, you can easily skip down to the most commented-upon posts at the bottom of the page -- both are ways for you to save time but also to participate in this blog. I've only enabled the most recent posts, but everything going forward will be vote-able. It helps me to see what images speak to you, so vote away!

Baby Anya is a Bad-A**
OK, not really, she's actually the cutest thing ever, but her dad is one of the most droll and absurdly funny people I know. So it's no surprise that his sweet baby Anya busted out some extremely un-baby like expressions during our shoot. Her parents are dear friends (who started out as neighbors), and I even got to be one of the first to see Anya in the hospital the day she was born! Big sister Sophie is a little younger than Lila, so our families hang out a lot.

***Warning, the last shot is not for the squeamish, but it is evidence of what it's really like to have a baby -- and also how cool a Canon motordrive is!
