No Child Left Inside
Last Thursday the {Greensboro Montessori School } hosted a talk by Richard Louv, bestselling author of { Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder } as part of a week-long { "No Child Left Inside" } initiative. He is a fascinating and thoughtful guy, and won the 2008 Audubon Award for his work spearheading this all-important worldwide dialogue about how to better connect children with nature.
I enjoyed hanging out with a lot of the kids from the school, whose energy was not in the least bit tempered by the gray skies and threat of rain. They were all a great example of how important it is to get outside!!

Rachel & Justin Get Married
I shot a very cool wedding with Taryn last weekend at the {Umstead Hotel} in Cary, and it was an amazing blend of Southern sophistication and pure rock and roll. Justin does look like Rolling Stones bassist Ron Wood, after all! In contrast to the bucolic hills of Lindsay and Jeff's {winery wedding} the week before, Rachel and Justin's wedding might as well have been in downtown Manhattan for all its urban polish. The entire setting was pure elegance, complete with candlelit ballroom and sit-down dinner, hors d'oevres on the terrace and then dancing into the night.
Rachel came for her bridal portrait session a few months back, so I want to share a few of those images too.

A beautiful shot (by Taryn) of Rachel's sister Megan, who was kind enough to refer us. Thank you, Megan!
Congratulations, guys! Have fun in Italy!!!

Baby Abigail
What a delightful morning I spent at Talia and Chad's house last week, and got to meet their beautiful baby girl, Abigail. Their chocolate lab, Baxter, is as patient and loving as any dog could be who has just seen his place in the family pack order get bumped down a few notches! But even though Abigail has just arrived, Talia and Chad shower Baxter with so much love, and were constantly reminding him that he is still very much their first baby. He was quite protective of Abigail, and was always circling and settling in wherever she was nestled. Such a sweet family. Thank you for having me over!

The Niven Family
Ellie and Will -- how cute are they!!??
I love this little moment that came about between shots when Ellie and Will initiated a spontaneous group hug:
Thanks, Nivens -- can't wait to see you again soon!

Lindsay & Jeff Get Married
A super-fun wedding in what looks like Napa Valley, but is actually in the beautiful foothills of central North Carolina. The setting was Raffaldini Vineyards, which has an old-world feel and a gorgeous villa on the grounds. The weather and evening light were both spectacular.
It all felt very cinematic to me, and there's something about this shot that feels like a still from an Italian film from the '50s:

Props to Taryn, who captured the lovely rear-view shot below -- it's fun to see the same moment from two different angles.
This beautiful boy was taking a stroll with his grandpa during the ceremony -- I can't resist wide-eyed babies, even when vows are being said!
The wedding day was orchestrated by Lindsey Cheek of Grace Leisure Events, and she was such a delight to work with. If it weren't for her clipboard and notebook, she could easily pass for one of the bridesmaids, she's so glowing and pretty. (This great shot by Taryn, btw):
I headed down into the vineyard rows with Lindsay and Jeff for a few just-married shots. I absolutely love this first one, which I just happened to catch as I turned around and caught the fading light behind them. I know this is a weird reference, but am I the only one who thinks this kind of looks like the poster for "No Country for Old Men"??
The party got underway at sunset, and Lindsay and Jeff's first dance was out on the terrace overlooking the fields and the ceremony site. Here's the Raffaldini Villa, surrounded by luminaries lit by family and friends:
OK, enough of the subdued slow music, it's time to DANCE. The flower girl (so poised in a shot above) was a whirling dervish on the dance floor, as was her fellow grade school-age dancing partner.
That's Mark Toney from DJ Joe Bunn in the background:
There was plenty of joyful reveling -- It was a winery, after all!
The garter toss doesn't usually get so much enthusiasm as it did here -- they were jumping for that thing like it was the ball at a playoff game with two seconds to go. And what a victorious catch!
A full moon behind the clouds. I feel Fall coming....
Sparklers are such a fun way to cap off a party (and thanks to Jeff for reminding everyone that hair DOES catch on fire, especially when it has lots of product in it, so please be careful). Nobody combusted, so all's well that ends well.
We had a great time, guys, thank you for everything and congratulations!
